Hamilton Accies Women boss hails side for magnificent seven in Perth

Hamilton Accies Women boss Robert Wason hailed his magnificent seven goal scorers as they maintained their unbeaten start to the season in SWPL2.

Accies made light work of St Johnstone in Perth as they ran out 7-0 winners on Sunday to earn their fourth win from five matches so far.

Lauren Kerr, Eryn Brown, Josi Giard, Sophie Townsley, Kirsty McIntosh, Charmaine McGuire and Kirsten Love were all on target in the rout, as Accies responded to a disappointing 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock last week.

Watson said: “I’m really pleased. We were a wee bit unsure about the venue, it’s not somewhere we’d played before and playing on grass is not something we do that often these days, so I am delighted to come away with a 7-0 win.

“Seven different scorers shows that we have got some goals about the team and the players were great.

“The players themselves said that they knew they had to be better than they played against Kilmarnock last week, and we were in complete control of the match.

“I was able to make a couple of changes to the team and to make some substitutes later on and still contribute goals right up until the final whistle, that was great to see.

“It is good to get more players some minutes so that if injuries and suspensions start to bite, we know we’ve got players across the squad who can step in. It shows a bit of depth that we’ve maybe lacked in recent months.”

Accies hold a three point lead over nearest rivals Livingston at the top and now host fourth place Gartcairn on Sunday.

Watson added: “Gartcairn were probably most people’s favourites at the start of the season with the signings they made. They are going through a bit of a sticky patch at the moment, but we’d be foolish to underestimate them.
