Hamilton Accies boss looking to bring in one more player
John Rankin is looking to add at least one more player to his Hamilton Accies squad, as he bids to turn around a poor run of form.
Rankin on Tuesday moved to bring midfielder Charlie Telfer in on a loan deal from Ross County, and hopes to borrow at least one more from a Premiership club.
Saturday’s 2-1 win at Queen’s Park proved to be a false dawn as Accies lost 2-0 at Morton on Tuesday, leaving them just a point above Dunfermline in the relegation play-off spot as they head to Raith Rovers this weekend.
On a run of one win in six games, Rankin is well aware that there’s work to be done, but hopes for reinforcements.
He said: “Charlie has been on the radar for a couple of weeks.
“We spoke to Charlie a wee while ago, he wasn’t convinced that he wasn’t going to get game-time at Ross County, but came back to me on Tuesday morning to say he wanted to come and play games.
“I’ve known Charlie since he was a young boy at Dundee United, I played with him, so I know what quality he brings.
“He sets standards and that’s important right now, but it’s also important to bring in another fresh face.
“We’re trying to get one more. I don’t know if we can, with regards to clubs letting them out. We’ll continue to work on that.”
On Tuesday’s defeat, Rankin said: “We competed for large spells, there was nothing in the game, but we need to be much more composed.
“We challenged the players to build on Saturday’s win, they didn’t manage that, so it’s disappointing.
“We’re just not getting that bit of quality in the final third right now, or that goal that gets us in front.”
On their run, Rankin said: “I wouldn’t say it’s concerning. It’s more a wake-up call, and we know what we need to do.
