Haas admit ‘not necessarily a lot to take’ from limited laps

Haas team principal Guenther Steiner admitted the team’s limited running on the first day in Barcelona can’t count for much in terms of the data gathered.

Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher completed 43 laps between them as the VF-22 suffered some teething problems on the first day of pre-season running.

Mazepin suffered from a cooling issue within the car, while Schumacher was sidelined for the majority of the afternoon as he had floor damage on his Haas.

When compared to eight of their rival teams getting more than 100 laps under their belts, the team have plenty of catching up to do over the next two days if they are to gather the data they need prior to the official pre-season Test in Bahrain in a fortnight’s time.

Steiner said he hopes for the car to be reliable enough to get some more significant mileage in the coming days, after the team were left short on Wednesday.
