Haaland, Nunez, Mbappe, Benzema: Who has the best goals-per-game record in 2022?

The quality of attacking players in the Premier League has increased quite a bit in recent days.

On Monday afternoon, Manchester City officially announced the signing of Erling Haaland, while Benfica have confirmed that Darwin Nunez will join Liverpool in a deal worth up to €100 million.

The pair are two of the best young strikers in world football right now.

Haaland, 21, has scored goals at a frightening rate over the past three years at Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund and with the Norwegian national team.

As for Nunez, 22, he’s become something of a household name thanks to his exploits with Benfica in 2021/22.

The Uruguayan forward bagged 34 goals across all competitions and that impressive return saw Liverpool identify him as the man to replace the outgoing Sadio Mane.

And despite not quite being the global superstar that Haaland is just yet, Nunez is currently outperforming City’s new main man in one key department.

The former Almeria striker currently possesses a far better goals-per-game record, the sixth-best in Europe actually – according to Transfermarkt.

Let’s take a look at the top 20 in full…
