GYTR joins GRT Yamaha for 2022 WorldSBK campaign

GRT Yamaha’s Garrett Gerloff and Kohta Nozane presented their 2022 WorldSBK team colours on Thursday ahead of the Barcelona tests.

Two days of track action await the pair from Saturday with the GRT GYTR Yamaha WorldSBK machines in full livery for the first time.

Last year’s Best Independent Team is supported by Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing for the coming campaign, as American Gerloff strives for his maiden win on the world stage after two educational seasons and five podiums to date. Japanese rider Nozane returns for his second bite of the cherry after his rookie year.

Team Manager Filippo Conti has a busy season ahead as he takes command in two paddocks, with WorldSBK duties combining with those of MotoE as part of the WITHU GRT RNF MotoE outfit, running Yamaha test rider Niccolò Canepa and Bradley Smith.

“I’m so glad I only had to wait 24 hours between seeing the new bikes for the first time and them being shown to the public!” Gerloff said from Spain. “I couldn’t have kept it a secret much longer than that! The colour scheme and the graphics are incredible, they’ve outdone themselves.

“I’m very excited to ride the new GRT GYTR Yamaha WorldSBK Team R1 on track here in Barcelona. We’re still going through our pre-season campaign in preparation for the 2022 FIM Superbike World Championship, and test after test we’re gaining confidence to be ready for the first round in Aragon.

“Just two weeks left until the lights go out and I cannot wait for a new beginning with my amazing team!”
