Gustaf Lagerbielke in stunning Celtic U-turn as horror Champions League hoodoos banished – 5 talking points

Golden Gustaf Lagerbielke opened his scoring account to claim a first Champions League home win for Celtic in 10 years as they defeated Dutch big-hitters Feyenoord 2-1.

An otherwise forgettable group campaign finished on a high thanks to Luis Palma’s first half penalty and the Swedish sub nodding home in stoppage time. Santiago Gimenez’s celebrations were cut short by a VAR intervention for offside and Celtic survived - then stole in front.

French whistler Benoit Bastien gave Celtic a penalty when Liam Scales was dragged down as he prepared to contest a corner. Ramiz Zerrouki was furious but he’d been warned just before about his penalty box antics. Palma atoned for his miss against Motherwell by lashing this spot-kick straight down the middle. Celtic rode their luck and leant on Joe Hart to be ahead at the break. The ex-England keeper pulled off excellent stops from Gimenez then Quinten Timber.

Lutsharel Geertruida also hit the woodwork as the final third movement of the Dutch caused chaos. Palma almost plundered a second goal three minutes after the interval. He latched onto Bernardo’s cross and fired near post, only for Bijlow to block brilliantly with his right boot.
