Gun and £7k found after police stop car at M6 Charnock Richard services

Police found a gun and £7,000 in cash after stopping a car at the M6 Charnock Richard Services on Wednesday afternoon (March 6).

The Lancashire Constabulary's Road Crime Team searched the vehicle yesterday afternoon (March 6) under the Misuse of Drugs Act. They discovered around £7,000 in cash in the passenger footwell, along with a 'blank firing pistol' reports Lancs Live.

A 26 year old man with no fixed address and a 28 year old man from Portsmouth were arrested on suspicion of money laundering and possession of a firearm. Both men are still being held for questioning.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: "On Wednesday 6th March 2024, officers from our Road Crime Team, stopped a vehicle on the M6 at Charnock Richard Services. Following a search under Section 23 the misuse of drugs act, around £7000 in cash was located in the passenger footwell, along with a blank firing pistol."

"A 26-year-old man of no fixed abode and a 28-year-old man from Portsmouth have been arrested on suspicion of money laundering and possession of a firearm. Both are currently in custody."
