'Gullible' Rangers reminded £20m spree is pocket change to Celtic as confident Hotline caller laughs it up at rivals
Russell Martin is now truly up and running at Rangers having secured five new signings ahead of the coming season and more are on the way.
Conor Coady in advanced talks over a move from Leicester City and Wolves defender Nasser Djiga closing in on loan switch and new Ibrox owners 49ers Enterprises have pledged £20million into helping revamp the squad.
But one Hotline caller has reminded Gers that their new-found wealth is nothing compared to what Celtic have in their coffers on the other side of the city. Scott Kerr, Glasgow, called to say: "The gullible mob from Govan think the 49ers with £20million in the bank are the best thing since sliced bread. Champions Celtic have picked up Sweden international Benjamin Nygren and rookie Japanese defender Hayato Inamura for minimal transfer fees but supporters are still clamouring for some real big money arrivals at Parkhead this summer. However, William Hutchison, Aberdeen, is relaxed about the situation given the club's success at unearthing previously unknown gems in recent seasons.
He said: "I agree no need to panic over the signings but then signing players we haven't heard of maybe is a bit worrying. But then look at the other players we signed who no one had heard of, they went out, made people take notice and became legends."
Gerry McDonald, Kirkintilloch, went one step further by pointing out the irony of criticism from Rangers fans on the Hotline about Celtic's recruitment so far this summer. He added: "The hilarity continues with the input from Messrs Flett, Lavelle, and co. Once again, they have introduced a new dimension to the well-worn concept called irony, with their criticisms of Celtic’s summer signings
