Guenther Steiner says Kevin Magnussen will get even better after strong qualifying

Guenther Steiner has said we ain’t seen nothing yet in terms of Kevin Magnussen’s performance this season in Formula 1, after the Dane stuck his Haas car in P7 for today’s Bahrain Grand Prix in yesterday’s qualifying session.

The new season is upon us and we’re now starting to see the initial pecking order after weeks of speculation and smoke and daggers from the teams.

Indeed, Ferrari and Red Bull look strongest but it is perhaps Haas who have made the biggest strides from 2021 to 2022, with them lining up P7 with Magnussen and P12 with Mick Schumacher in Bahrain this afternoon.

Magnussen was perhaps the star of the show on Saturday, despite Charles Leclerc’s fine pole position for Ferrari, and Steiner believes there’s a great deal more to come from the Dane once he is fully up to speed – he only knew he was driving for the team a couple of weeks ago, of course:

“Can you imagine what he’s doing in six or seven races, if he’s like all the other drivers?” said Steiner. “Just imagine that!

“I think he came back in a good form, but I would say I’m honestly convinced that there’s more to come.

One Alfa and one Haas into Q3 you say? #F1 #BahrainGP https://t.co/HvhPKZC3N4

“You cannot sit in these F1 cars and be at 100 percent straight away. It’s not going to happen, so there’ll be more to come. Therefore, I’m very optimistic also, looking forward, for the whole team.

“With Mick [Schumacher], he will learn to fight now at this level, which is a different level than he was last year, and Kevin will up his game because he just gets in the tune again.”

It was brilliant to see Haas going well with both cars on Saturday and hopefully they will be able to convert that into a strong race finish this afternoon.

Lights out is at 3pm UK
