Guardiola, Mourinho, Klopp, Ferguson: Which manager has spent the most in Premier League history?

Manchester City are set to complete the signing of Erling Haaland.

The Citizens announced they had agreed a fee [believed to be  £51.1m, per Sky Sports] with Dortmund for the Norwegian star.

He will sign for the club after personal terms are completed.

That takes Pep Guardiola’s spending at City to just under £1 billion, per Transfermarkt.

That’s an incredible amount for a manager that has only been in the Premier League since 2016.

But how does his spending compare to other managers to have managed in England’s top tier?

Using Transfermarkt, we’ve listed the 20 managers that have spent the most money in Premier League history.

20. Nuno Espirito Santo – £279,90m

19. Roberto Mancini – £283.59m

18. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – £293.63m

17. Harry Redknapp – £314.23m

16. Louis van Gaal – £314.64m

15. Claudio Ranieri – £322.34m

14. Steve Bruce – £327.14m

13. Ronald Koeman – £350. 37m

12. Antonio Conte – £351.45m

11. David Moyes – £372.87m

10. Rafael Benitez – £414.32m

9. Mauricio Pochettino – £435.22m

8. Jurgen Klopp – £439.07m

7. Brendan Rodgers – £441.97m

6. Mark Hughes – £538.53m

5. Manuel Pellegrini – £553.92m

4. Sir Alex Ferguson – £691.74m

3. Arsene Wenger – £859.50m

2. Pep Guardiola – £920.80m (£971.90m when Haaland deal is completed)

1. Jose Mourinho – £1.21 billion

Guardiola has spent money at will at Man City and is set to break the £1 billion mark.

He isn’t the highest spending manager in Premier League history, though.

Mourinho spent a grand total of £1.21billion during his time in England with Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Guardiola will have to spend another £300m to surpass his great rival.
