Grimsby Town player ratings as Mariners win at Alfreton Town

Did not have much to do at all in goal as Alfreton struggled to get into Grimsby's final third and create chances to challenge the goalkeeper.

Efete was strong defensively and in his aerial battles, and as was typical with his game last season, he got forward at every opportunity to stretch the pitch and create an overload on the right channel.

Marshalled his backline well and took his goal excellently. Waterfall always looked a threat from set-pieces, as he usually does, and was rewarded for his efforts on this occassion.

Did what was needed with Alfreton not really challenging in Grimsby's defensive third. Got up for his headers well and kept it simple in possession.

Like Efete, Glennon looked to get forward when he could but did not get the chance to show his crossing ability and he did not have much defending to do.

Had a good effort saved well by the Alfreton 'keeper and looked to be positive on the ball. However, his end product lacked slightly when he got into advanced positions.

Composed performance in the middle of the park. Got into some great positions to score and could have had a few goals to his name in the first-half if not for some last-ditch defending.

Most of the midfield play seemed to go through Holohan, but Morris did not really put a foot wrong while having a quiet game. His positioning could have been better to receive the ball from the defenders.

Made a few mistakes on the ball early on but recovered really well in the first half to have a big impact on the game. A fantastic delivery for Waterfall's goal.

Always involved. Really well-taken goal and always found himself in the right positions to affect the game with his persistent running between the lines, as we saw on so many occasions last
