Grimsby-Notts County postponed 90 minutes from kick-off as cold snap continues

Grimsby’s League Two game against Notts County was called off just 90 minutes before kick-off as the cold snap continued to play havoc with the weekend’s sporting fixtures.

Following a pitch inspection at Blundell Park, Grimsby announced on social media shortly before 11am that areas of the pitch had been deemed “unplayable”.

“We apologise for the inconvenience the late call has caused for supporters of both clubs,” the club posted on X.

Gillingham’s game against Fleetwood Town was another casualty in League Two, with matches between Carlisle and MK Dons and Port Vale and Barrow having been postponed on Friday.

League One games at Blackpool and Stevenage also fell foul of the conditions on Saturday morning, joining postponements at Northampton and Shrewsbury.

The FA Cup tie between Leyton Orient and Derby was also postponed and rearranged for Tuesday, as the ties at Preston and Mansfield had been on Friday.

Saturday’s scheduled racing at Kempton was called off following a review of the course on Friday morning, while the meetings at Warwick and Wetherby had already been postponed along with Kelso’s Sunday fixture due to a frozen track.

There was better news at Ffos Las, Cheltenham and Fairhouse, with all three meetings surviving the big freeze.
