Greggs issues warning as pasty mispackaging causes 'possible health risk'

Greggs has recalled two packs of Steak Bakes - due to some incorrectly packaged products. The 280g Steak Bakes, which are sold in Iceland, may contain sulphites.

This means that the products could be a health risk to anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites. The urgent notice was issued to customers on Monday (January 20).

In its recall notice, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: "Greggs is recalling Greggs 2 pack Steak Bake because it contains sulphites which are not declared on the label. Due to a packaging error some packs contain Sausage, Bean and Cheese Melts which contain sulphites.

"These were incorrectly packed in Steak Bake packaging. This means sulphites is not declared on the label; therefore the product is a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites."

The two pack Steak Bake products with a best before date of May 19 are being recalled. Anyone who has purchased the products are being told not to eat them and return to their nearest Iceland store for a full refund. Greggs apologised for inconvenience caused to customers.

The FSA update added: "If you have bought the above product and have a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites do not consume it. Instead return it to your nearest Iceland store from where it was bought for a full refund. For further information, contact Customer Care on +08081 473 447 or getintouch@greggs.co.uk."
