Green loving the Vic Open beach vibes

With world top-10 ambitions this year, Hannah Green knows she must start her season with a bang at this week's Vic Open.

After a 12-week layoff and all of December off to mentally reset after a gruelling five months on the road and in the air, Green will make her long-awaited return at the "relaxed" unisex event at beautiful Thirteenth Beach.

Perth's former major winner can't wait having been a late scratching from the Australian PGA Championship in Brisbane last month because of COVID-19 restrictions.

"It's really nice to be playing an actual golf tournament in Australia," Green said on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately due to borders, I wasn't able to play any last year so it's been a couple of years since I played on home soil.

"I love playing here, I love the experience but also having the pressure of having everyone barrack for me as well.

"So I'm really excited for the week to start and hopefully not too rusty after 12 weeks (off)."

Even if she is a bit rusty, the world No.30 said playing in the field of 144 men and 72 women - where two trophies are awarded and cuts are made on Friday and Saturday - was the ideal way to launch her 2022 assault.

"Just the environment. It's so relaxed," Green said.

"Having the crowd not necessarily outside ropes, staying with my boyfriend, I've had a great host family, it's just a really nice way to start the year.

"The golf course probably suits me a little bit. It's a little bit quirky, a little bit tricky. I prefer it that way.

"The conditions at the moment are a little bit kind. We'll see what comes Thursday.

"I know Sunday is going to be really hot and I've just come from Perth which has been 40 degrees every day, so that might help with my endurance.

"I just love it out here."
