Greater Manchester snow LIVE updates as roads closed and Met Office warnings in place while flooding persists
Wintry weather is causing another morning of disruption across Greater Manchester after further snowfall overnight. Major roads are among those closed across the region due to snow or flooding this morning (January 7).
The A555 Manchester Airport relief road, A57 Snake Pass and A628 Woodhead Pass are all closed due to the weather - while several smaller roads have also been affected. A signalling fault is causing trains to be delayed or cancelled between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport ahead of rush hour.
A yellow Met Office weather warning for snow and ice is in force until 10am today. Forecasters say sleet and snow showers overnight is likely to cause travel disruption, while people should take care on untreated surfaces. Manchester Airport closed its runways for a number of hours this morning due to snow.
All three terminals have since reopened, but passengers are being warned to expect delays. Amber flood alerts are in place for the rivers Bollin, Douglas and Mersey around Greater Manchester.
More severe, red 'act now' flood warnings are in force at the River Bollin and Agden Brook, in Little Bollington, and the Sankey Brook in Dallam, Warrington. The Met Office is forecasting sleet to start again in Manchester later this morning, with flurries expected throughout the day.
