Great British Bake Off pay poignant Chloe Avery tribute some viewers may have missed at end of show

Viewers of the Great British Bake Off were delighted as the hit show returned to our TV screens last night - but the show ended on a sad note.

After a brilliant opening episode packed with some promising new faces, the final moment of the credits left some viewers feeling emotional. Bake Off paid tribute to one of its producers, Chloe, who died last month in a title card at the end of the episode, YorkshireLive reports.

It said: 'In Loving Memory of Chloe Avery, 1980-2022'. A photo of Chloe was also shown on the screen.

Love Productions tweeted after the episode went out: "In memory of Chloë Avery who was a much loved member of the Bake Off family."

Chloe was a food producer for Love Productions, the company which produces and runs the show for The Great British Bake Off behind the scenes. Sadly, last month her brother Henry posted on Facebook to break the tragic news that Chloe had sadly lost her battle with cancer.

He wrote that Chloe was diagnosed with cancer in December last year and was given just two weeks to live by doctors. She started chemotherapy the next day but sadly died on Monday, August 22, 2022.

He added: "Throughout this, Chloë remained adamant that she would get better and put this all behind her. There will be so many of you reading this now that won’t have even known she was unwell, but that was how she wanted it to be. Chloë wanted to reappear after this, healthy and strong with her baby boy and simply say when asked that ‘2022 had been a tough year."

Viewers immediately shared their thoughts on the tribute. One said: "That tribute to @LoveProductions’ Chloe at the end was lovely.
