Great British Bake Off fans 'shouting at TV' and ask 'is this a thing'

Great British Bake Off fans have been 'screaming at the TV' after spotting the same 'error' during week two of the competition. The popular baking show returned on Tuesday evening with another Bake Off classic - biscuits.

Hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond told contestants they would be embarking on a Signature challenge centred around marshmallows, drawing inspiration from beloved childhood treats. As usual, their efforts came under close scrutiny from judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Following that, they tackled a technical challenge recipe featuring a custard classic. And to finish, the bakers face an illusion-themed Showstopper where they craft their cherished meals using biscuits.

But it seemed it was the first challenge that really got fans talking. Viewers took to social media to debate the way Alison and Noel were pronouncing the word 'marshmallow' during the beginning parts of Tuesday night's show. Many agreed and thought the key ingredient should be pronounced 'marshmallow,' rather than 'marshmellow.'

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), @OldFoxy_CV commented: "#GBBO Noel pronounced it properly at the start but now he’s joined the others. Another X user, @FionaFloyd, said: "Aaaaargh!! @AlisonHammond please learn to say marshmallow…it’s an A not an E. so marsh maaaallow, not marsh mellow. Shouting at the tv #GBBO."
