Grant Forrest hoping nostalgic moment can inspire him to glory as Scottish golf star makes the cut for the US Open

Grant Forrest can’t wait to roll back the years after making the US Open.

The Scottish golf star is heading to Pinehurst next month for the third major of the year. Forrest topped qualifying at Walton Heath with Richard Mansell and Brandon Robinson-Thompson to book a spot and set-up a return to the venue. He said: “I played the US Kids Teen World Championships at Pinehurst, I think back in 2009. They have changed it since then, but I’m looking forward to going back. I actually watched the highlights from Michael Campbell’s win there not too long ago.

“I can’t wait, my first US Open, so I’m looking forward to it. The US Open is traditionally the toughest test, so I’m looking forward to the challenge. We’ve got a lot of [Scottish] representation out here. Bob [MacIntyre] is the only one over in the States with Martin Laird, but the only one of our generation. It’s good to get more guys playing in the biggest events.”
