Granit Xhaka sends message to fans after winning Arsenal Player of the Month award

Granit Xhaka has described winning Arsenal’s Player of the Month award as ‘very special’ and thanked supporters for their votes.

The Switzerland international claimed the award for key performances in the month of April, particularly in the recent wins over Chelsea and Manchester United.

Xhaka netted Arsenal’s third goal from range to help secure a vital 3-1 victory against the Red Devils last weekend.

The result has seen Mikel Arteta’s side move into the driving seat in the race for Champions League qualification via the top four.

Xhaka has claimed the award voted for by fans on Arsenal.com, with fellow midfielder Mohamed Elneny coming second.

‘I want to say thank you very much for voting me as Player of the Month,’ said Xhaka.

‘It’s very special for me, but I want to say thank you as well for the support. Of course at home, but away as well.

‘We will try to achieve our goals for this season.’

Xhaka has been a divisive figure among the fanbase of the north London club, with the midfielder stripped of the club captaincy in 2019.

Despite continual links with a move to Serie A club Roma, the 29-year-old recently insisted he is 100 per cent committed to Arsenal.

‘Arsenal is still in my heart, 100%. My challenge was never to change people’s opinions about me, but to help the team. And then after that, if someone did change their mind because of that, then great,’ he told The Players’ Tribune.

‘I understand that we will never be best friends, but I hope we can treat each other with honesty and respect. I want you to know that whatever I do on the pitch, it comes from the right place.’
