Grand National 2023 tips as Garry Owen eyes Galvin for Aintree glory in the big one

After a top two days of racing, Grand National day is upon us.

Crowds will descend on Aintree for the most famous steeplechase on the planet and Record Sport's own Garry Owen brings you the best tips as always.

There's money to be made throughout the day and Garry's nap comes in the marquee race of the day after going for Galvin. Here's his tips in full.

GALVIN (5:15) can be electrifying in the Randox Grand National on Day Three of the Aintree Festival.

The tough chaser can gallop his way into history for his Lanarkshire-born owner Ronnie Bartlett.

Trainer by Gordon Elliott, he began his fencing career with a string of impressive wins over 2m 5f.

The gelding really came into his own when slaying Soldier Of Love over three miles at Cheltenham.

He then relished tackling 3m 6f when routing Next Destination in the National Hunt at the Festival.

The bay looked a cast-iron Gold Cup contender when bolting up on his comeback at Punchestown.

And he did his reputation little harm when second to Frodon in the Down Royal Champion Chase.

The son of Gold Well boosted his credentials by edging A Plus Tard in the Savilles at Leopardstown.

The nine-year-old then definitely wasn’t disgraced in the Cheltenham and Punchestown Gold Cups.

Impressive on his return back at Punchestown, the chaser soon lost his way over middle distances.

Those setbacks led the shrewd Elliott to switch Galvin’s attentions to a tilt at the Grand National.

And he ran the perfect trial when second to Delta Work in the Cross-Country Chase at Cheltenham.
