Graeme Souness breaks Rangers silence as return hype intensifies with Philippe Clement told he 'knows the score'

Rangers icon Graeme Souness has broken his silence on his involvement in the appointment of Philippe Clement - challenging the boss to catch Celtic this term.

And the behind the scenes reveal comes with speculation intensifying that the Ibrox icon could be set to make an emotional return to the Scottish Premiership side. The 70-year-old visited his Rangers and spoke to chief executive James Bisgrove in the summer for an informal discussion about an official return to the side he starred for and managed in the the 1980s.

While no agreement was reached at the time, it appears a permanent role could be on the cards for Souness after he was involved in the appointment of new Rangers boss. He worked alongside Bisgrove and chairman John Bennett to offer advice during the process - and talkSPORT pal Jim White has boldly claimed that the former Sky Sports pundit is "increasingly likely" to take up an advisory role.

And Souness has now spoken for the first time about his involvement in the process. Writing for the Daily Mail ahead of the 49-year-old's first clash against Hibs with Celtic holding a seven-point advantage over their rivals Souness said: "I was part of the process in appointing new Rangers boss Philippe Clement.

"He was very impressive at his interview and gave a great presentation. All you can do is look at his CV, the colour of his eyes and the way he speaks about football, and everything would appear right about him.
