Graeme Murty doesn't buy Rangers theory and predicts they WILL control the tempo against Celtic

Former Rangers caretaker boss Graeme Murty has urged Gio van Bronckhorst to field his strongest line-up against Celtic.

The Dutchman has some big decisions to make ahead of Sunday's derby showdown with the crucial Europa League semi final clash with RB Leipzig just four days later.

Van Bronckhorst fielded a much-changed side against Motherwell in their last Premiership outing before putting in a battling performance in the narrow 1-0 first leg defeat.

That has led to some calling for the focus to shift away from the visit to Celtic Park and on to the European campaign.

However, Murty reckons that a positive result in Glasgow's east end and building momentum would outweigh rest for the players.

Speaking on BBC's Off the Ball, he said: "I think he will try to mirror exactly what he did in the last game.

"When they got beat they were a bit passive, and they allowed Celtic to sort their formation out and their patterns out. They dictated the tempo, and I think Rangers have to try and dictate the tempo.

"Even though it'll be hard because of their exertions, I think he needs to go full strength. Personally, I think that is what he will do.

"As much as you do it to manage the legs, positivity can really lift you up.

"If they are go and do really well, it takes you into a packed house at Ibrox and they will fancy their chances of turning it round from 1-0 down."

The 47-year-old spent two spells in charge of Rangers as he took the reins after both Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha were axed at Ibrox.

The stand-in gaffer also lifted the lid on the pay structure he was handed after being put on the spot on air.
