Grace star Craig Parkinson's life from famous ex-wife to quitting role as DS Potting

The enthralling ITV drama Grace has made a comeback with none other than John Simm reprising his role as the troubled DS Roy Grace for season four. Known for his roles in both 'Doctor Who' and 'Life on Mars', Simm continues to navigate the complicated life of the detective from Peter James's bestselling novels.

For years, DS Roy Grace has been haunted by the unaccounted disappearance of his wife Sandy (portrayed by Clare Calbraith), but now he's trying to move forward with new-found love Cleo (Zoe Tapper), who is expecting their child.

Adding complexity to DS Grace's life, Sandy's return in the third season threw his efforts for a fresh start into turmoil. Alongside John Simm, Richie Campbell returns to the dark and twisty world of crime in Brighton as DS Glenn Branson, and fans will catch Craig Parkinson, well-known from 'Line of Duty', portraying DS Norman Potting once more.

Parkinson, aged 48, has revealed that this series will be his last on 'Grace'. Last month, taking to Instagram, he shared an emotive statement about his departure: "After a very happy few years I've made the decision to hand in Norman Potting's detective badge."

He added: "The new season of Grace begins on ITV on 1st September but it will also be my last. It's been a wonderful experience taking this character from page to screen and updating him for a new audience," reports the Express.

"There was a huge sense of responsibility in portraying such a character from Peter James's much-loved book series, but with a few tweaks here and there from our excellent script team and the support from Peter. I'm really glad that he resonated with the audience."
