Gout Gout stuns crowds as 'new Usain Bolt' blitzes 100m competition with whirlwind time

A teenage sensation has once again be compared to Olympic great Usain Bolt after running one of fastest ever U18 100m times.

Sprint prodigy Gout Gout left his opponents in his wake as he ran a 10.04-second time during the heats at the national All Schools Athletics Championship this week. The Australian speedster, who is still only 16, recorded the fourth fastest time ever by an under-18 athlete and fifth quickest overall by an Aussie.

Unfortunately, that time, he couldn’t go into the record books as he was assisted by a 3.4-second tailwind, which could be no more than 2m/s. But he nonetheless blew away the stunned onlookers and smashed his PB of 10.29. After breezing past his rivals at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre, commentator Mitch Dyer beamed: "10.04, how do you do Gout Gout? That is absolutely unbelievable. Ladies and gentlemen, that is history.” He added: "He can't be stopped. He is incredible. The future is here, you just watched it."

The teenager went on to win the final in a legal, and record-breaking, 10.17s in Brisbane on Friday. He surpassed the previous record of 10.27 set by Sebastian Sultana in 2022. His performances have prompted fresh comparisons with Jamaican sprint icon Usain Bolt, who boasts eight Olympic and 11 World Championship gold medals.

Gout is quickly becoming one of the most exciting young talents in his sport. He quickly shot to fame when he trounced one of Bolt's records at the U20 World Championship in August, by recording a time of 20.60 seconds - 0.01 seconds faster than Bolt in the same competition - at the age of 14. Earlier this month, he clocked an impressive 20.29 seconds at the All Schools Queensland Championship, the fastest by an Aussie for over three decades.
