Gossip: Bayern, Villa get a jump on Man Utd for midfielders

Man Utd are slipping off the pace in races for two midfield targets, while Man City aren’t confident yet of landing Erling Haaland while Real Madrid hope for a year to get their ducks in a row…

BAYERN IN FIRST FOR AJAX MIDFIELDER

While Manchester United continue to deliberate over who their next manager might be, the Red Devils could be losing ground in the race for their summer transfer targets.

We know they need a midfielder. We know they’ve needed a midfielder for sodding ages. But two of the targets they have been most heavily linked with are the subjects of firm interest from elsewhere.

Last week it was reported that United were extensively scouting Holland international Ryan Gravenberch, perhaps with the idea of bringing him to Old Trafford from Ajax with Erik ten Hag. But Gravenberch was said to be unconvinced over the prospect of joining United while he waited to hear from Bayern Munich.

Now, Telegraaf says Bayern have made their move. The Bundesliga giants have already discussed personal terms with the teenager’s agent, Mino Raiola, and an opening offer in the region of £21million has been submitted. Ajax are said to be holding out for more but an agreement is expected to be reached.
