Golden State Warriors unlikely to pursue Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony, a 10-time NBA All-Star, is still an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but it doesn’t seem like the Golden State Warriors are interested in signing the seasoned forward.

The Warriors, who recently won their fourth title in the past eight seasons, have now been dubbed a dynasty, and they don’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.

Klay Thompson is still a significant player despite his ACL and Achilles problems, Draymond Green is still an excellent defender, and the Warriors have a wealth of young talent that will only develop over time. Not only that, but Stephen Curry is still in the prime of his career.

However, many well-known figures have left the Bay Area after their recent championship. In free agency, Gary Payton II signed with the Portland Trail Blazers, Damion Lee signed with the Phoenix Suns, and Nemanja Bjelica went overseas with Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. Otto Porter Jr. also signed with the Toronto Raptors.

The Warriors just made a move to add veteran forward JaMychal Green to their roster when the Oklahoma City Thunder released him; however, there are still a few unfilled roster places until the 2022–23 season begins.

Carmelo Anthony, a former scoring champion and ten-time NBA All-Star, is still an unrestricted free agent when August begins, but it doesn’t seem like Golden State will be a likely destination for him. Anthony is not currently on the Warriors’ radar and the team has not demonstrated any interest in signing him.

Given that Lester Quinones and Quinndary Weatherspoon are already occupying the team’s two open two-way spots, it is likely that at least one of Mac McClung, Pat Spencer, or Trevion Williams will earn the 14th spot on Golden State’s roster for the 2022–23 season.
