GMP officer fined after misusing force's IT systems

A GMP officer has admitted misusing the force's IT systems. Police Sergeant Richard Proctor was fined £400 by magistrates.

It was revealed in August that he had been charged with alleged misuse of the force's IT systems. Proctor, 40, who is based within GMP's City of Manchester division, appeared in court last month.

In a previous statement GMP said he had been charged with: one count of enabling unauthorised access to a computer program/data; one count of obtaining/disclosing personal data; and one count of knowingly or recklessly obtaining or disclosing personal data without consent of the controller.

The statement said GMP's Professional Standards Branch would recommence misconduct proceedings on conclusion of the criminal investigation.

It is understood the officer accessed police systems without a policing purpose. He duties have been restricted since the investigation begun, with no access to police systems. Misconduct proceedings have now recommenced since his conviction.

In a statement today GMP said: "Proctor entered a guilty plea and was subsequently fined £400 plus court costs."
