GMP officer appears in court as full details of her charges and alleged 'relationships with criminals' revealed

A Greater Manchester Police officer has appeared in court charged with misconduct in public office.

PC Choni Kenny faces three charges, including allegations that she shared police information with criminal associates and helped a serving prisoner possess a mobile phone. The 26-year-old, who is based in GMP's City of Manchester district, appeared in the dock at Liverpool Magistrates Court today (Friday).

She is charged with misconduct in public office; conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office and intentionally encouraging or assisting an inmate to possess a mobile phone within a prison. The offences allegedly occurred between April 1, 2021 and June 21 last year.

Details of the misconduct charge involve her not notifying GMP of her relationships with criminal associates, accessing police information and intelligence without legitimate purpose and sharing information with associates.

She is also alleged to have conspired with Rahim Mottley by accessing police information and intelligence without a legitimate purpose and sharing it with him.

The third charge alleges that she conducted telephone conversations with Josh Whelan, a serving prisoner, which she knew he was conducting on an illegal mobile phone and topped up his mobile phones intending to encourage or assist the offence of possessing a mobile phone in prison.

Ms Kenny, of Tennyson Road, Cheadle, Stockport, who has been suspended since her arrest, appeared in the dock smartly dressed in a short black mini skirt, black tights and shoes and a black jacket. Her brown hair was held back with a large claw clip.

She spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address.
