GMB Susanna Reid feels 'physically sick' as she fights back tears over Ukraine tragedy

Susanna Reid was left fighting back tears as she spoke about the tragic death of a child in Ukraine.

The presenter was back at the helm of the ITV news programme to bring viewers the latest on the ongoing situation as the Russian invasion of Ukraine enters its fifth day.

Susanna also admitted to feeling 'physically sick' after learning President Vladimir Putin had put Russia's nuclear forces on high alert amid the invasion.

The UK Ministry of Defence released an intelligence update earlier this morning in which it highlights that "Putin's ground forces remain more than 30km to the north of Kyiv" and have been slowed down by Ukrainian forces defending Hostomel airfield.

But speaking on Monday morning's GMB, Susanna referenced the human price of the conflict and became chocked as she spoke of the death of a schoolgirl who is the first to be named as a victim of the Russian invasion

"She is a little girl from a primary school. Her name is Polina. She was in her final year of primary school.

"I'm afraid what happened to them is shocking. She and her parents have been shot dead by a Russian sabotage and reconnaissance group who opened fire on their family car.

"And that is according to the city's deputy mayor, Volodymyr Bondarenko, who has reported that in a Facebook post."

She continued: "Polina's brother is receiving treatment at the children's hospital and her sister is in intensive care at a second hospital."
