Glentoran announce first signing of summer transfer window

Glentoran have announced the signing of centre forward Ally Roy.

The recently turned 25-year-old had been on the Glens' radar for a number of weeks and has now put pen-to-paper on terms with Mick McDermott's side.

Roy - who was born in Airdrie but qualifies for Northern Ireland through his Co Tyrone grandparents - spent last season with Queen of the South and scored 11 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions including the Scottish Championship, League Cup, Challenge Cup and Scottish Cup.

His previous clubs include Hearts, Partick Thistle, Sligo Rovers and Derry City.

Glentoran manager McDermott told the club's website: “Ally is a player we have been tracking since last season; the opportunity to sign him became a reality in the last few weeks and we acted quickly to bring him to Glentoran.

"We know there were offers from other full-time clubs in our league and from Scotland. We are happy that Ally has chosen Glentoran as his home for the next two seasons.

"He has the ability to play centrally or in wider areas - his pace and directness are qualities that we know will make an impact in our league.

"We look forward to seeing him in our pre-season fixtures in the coming weeks.”
