'Give them a lift ahead of the new season' - Journo reacts after hearing who Rangers could sign
Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, Pete O’Rourke offered his verdict on potential Rangers signing Stephen Odey.
The Randers forward scored 14 goals in 33 games last season, and O’Rourke believes that he will offer fans a boost ahead of next season, telling This Is Futbol:
“Would always go down well with the fans, I think, if Rangers were able to beat Celtic to a potential transfers target. Again, they’ve obviously done their homework on this player and it seems that both Rangers and Celtic are interested in him. So I think if Rangers were to win it, it would give them a lift ahead of the new season.”
The battles are already starting between the Scottish giants, even off the pitch. If Rangers do land the forward, then their attack would instantly receive an improvement, therefore also relieving the pressure placed on Alfredo Morelos.
According to All Nigeria Soccer, preliminary talks have already been held over a potential move for Stephen Odey, who would cost €4 million to sign from Danish club Randers.
Even off the pitch, any form of a victory over Celtic will be a nice feeling for Rangers, should they manage to land Odey over their Old Firm rivals. If you compare Morelos and the potential new arrival, too, it becomes obvious why Rangers are interested in the striker.
As per Squawka, both forwards had an incredibly similar conversion rate, with Morelos’ 14.67% and Odey’s 14.58%. Meanwhile, Odey has a better shot accuracy, and makes more ball recoveries per 90 compared to Morelos.
When taking a look at the numbers, Odey makes complete sense for Rangers. He looks like the ideal signing this summer, as the Scottish giants look to reclaim their SPL crown after losing out to Celtic last season.
