Giro Donne 2023 Stage 1 LIVE – Short time trial cancelled amid miserable conditions

Ad 13:40 — Stage cancelled Vuelta España FemeninaVollering wins on Lagos de Covadonga but Van Vleuten holds on for Vuelta GC win07/05/2023 AT 13:48 13:30 — Race paused The race has been paused for a second time now due to the weather! Early start — the times so far There has been an earlier start than initially planned due to bad weather of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Unfortunately, this meant that many of the contenders for today have already completed their TTs before the live coverage started.

Here’s how the top ten is looking at the moment: Hot seat: Letizia Paternoster (Team Jayco AlUla) — 5'42" Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar Team) — 5'42" Marianne Vos (Team Jumbo-Visma) — 5'42" Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig (FDJ — SUEZ) — 5'42" Chloe Dygert (Canyon//SRAM Racing) — 5'43" (a crash cost her some vital seconds) Georgia Baker (Team Jayco AlUla) — 5'43" Megan Jastrab (Team dsm-firmenich) — 5'43" Marthe Goossens (AG Insurance — Soudal Quick-Step) — 5'44" Carina Schrempf (Fenix-Deceuninck) — 5'45" Ally Wollaston (AG Insurance — Soudal Quick-Step)- 5'46" Welcome! Good afternoon and welcome to stage one of the Giro Donne! The eight-stage race is starting today with a 4.4km individual time trial around Chianciano Terme with a course that will favour the most powerful riders among the peloton. It’s a relatively flat stage, however, the awful weather has made the roads treacherously slippery, so riders will be looking to avoid any crashes while also trying to secure the fastest time and the maglia rosa for the first stage.

At the moment it’s Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar Team) who’s in the hot seat with a time of 5.42, but the stage has only just re-started following a thunderstorm. It’s chaos for both riders and reporters alike! —
