Girls Aloud stars Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts say it felt 'uncomfortable' finding way to pay tribute to Sarah Harding

Girls Aloud stars Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts have opened up about their grief nearly a year on from the loss of their bandmate and friend Sarah Harding. The singer died aged 39 in September last year after revealing that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, which had spread to other parts of her body.

Her former bandmates are set to come together in her memory and take part in a Race for Life. Cheryl was the first to confirm the news last month that she will be taking part alongside Kimberley, Nicola and Nadine Coyle. Taking to Instagram, Cheryl said in a video on her Instagram Story: "Around this time last year when Sarah was really sick, we were desperately trying to find way to help and comfort her.

"You feel so helpless at times like that. One of the only things she really wanted was a gala dinner. While that's underway and we are doing that, we felt like we could be doing more. We've decided to do Race for Life for Sarah at Hyde Park on 24th July."

Speaking on Tuesday (July 19) on BBC Radio 2’s The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, Kimberley and Nicola reflected on the "daily challenge" of grieving the loss of their friend.

Kimberle, 40, said: "It’s crazy to me to think that it’s almost been a year. In September, it’s coming up to a year. It’s a daily challenge, let’s put it that way, and I think it throws you at the times that you don’t expect it." The singer, presenter and theatre star
