Girl, 16, stamped on and dragged across platform by her hair in brutal attack at train station

A 16-year-old girl was stamped on and dragged across a platform by her hair in a brutal attack at a train station in Salford.

The victim was waiting for a train at Swinton railway station on April 22 when two other girls walked onto the platform. British Transport Police said the groups had a 'verbal altercation' before the two girls then left.

A short time later, they came back and one of the girls launched an attack on the victim. She punched her in the head then dragged her to the ground.

She kicked her in the body and head before dragging her across the platform by her hair then viciously stamping on her head multiple times, officers said. The attack only stopped when a train driver stepped in to help.

Police have now released a CCTV picture of a girl they want to speak to about the attack, which happened just after 6.30pm. In an appeal, BTP said she 'may have vital information which could help their investigation'.

Anyone who recognises the girl is being urged to get in touch. A BTP statement said: "At just after 6.30pm on 22 April, the 16-year-old victim was sat with a friend at the station waiting for a train when two other girls entered the station and sat on the same platform.A verbal altercation between the two groups ensued and the two girls left the station.

"A short while later they returned and one of the girls began attacking the victim. She repeatedly punched the victim in the head before pulling her to the ground and kicking her body and head. The attack continued as the girl pulled the victim across the platform by her hair and stamped on her head several times.

"The assault stopped when the driver of an incoming train intervened.
