Girl, 12, left with broken arms after accident at Manchester park

A 12-year-old girl has been left with two broken arms after a cycling accident at a park in north Manchester.

Rosie Donohue fell off a bike while riding through Boggart Hole Clough in Blackley on Monday. She was taking part in a cycling session with other children at the time.

Her mother, Louise, said her daughter now requires round-the-clock care as she is unable to move her arms, and has been told she will need surgery.

"Everything was going absolutely brilliant," said Ms Donohue, who runs her own business putting on trips for schoolchildren.

"We were there for about two hours and had ten minutes to go. Rosie changed bikes and realised they have really good brakes and went right over the handlebars on the mountain bike she was riding.

"She has fallen straight onto her arms and they have both broken. The bike then fell on top of her so her whole body is covered in bruises. When I got to her, it was a horrible sight."

Rosie was taken to North Manchester General Hospital, where X-rays revealed she had broken both of her arms. She must now wear a cast on both arms, leaving her unable to move either of them.

"One arm has broken in two places and the other in one place," said Ms Donohue. "They are pretty bad breaks.

"She was so brave in hospital. She can't move her arms. I'm having to adjust them 10 to 15 times an hour.

"She has to have surgery within the next week, which is a little bit freaked out about. The doctors have said she does not have to but she will prolong it if she doesn't it."

Louise, who lives in Whitefield, has had to take time off work to support Rosie and does not know when she will be able to return. A friend
