Giorgos Giakoumakis Celtic injury fears grow as striker misses Greece training for 'personal programme'

Striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has reportedly missed Greece training and is a major doubt for their Nations League clash with Northern Ireland.

The Celtic star is on international duty with his country having been picked for the squad despite suspension meaning he missed the Nations League defeat to Cyprus, and boss Gus Poyet would have been looking to call on the frontman against Ian Baraclough's side. However, multiple reports in his homeland have reported that Giakoumakis had picked up a thigh injury and had underwent an MRI scan to determine the extent of the problem.

While initial reports stated that no clear problems had appeared the 27-year-old missed the main group training session under Poyet ahead of the game, according to Sport Time . The Greek outlet reports he instead following a "personal programme" and it's unclear if he will take part in the Nations League showdown in Athens, as the hosts prepare for their Euro 2024 playoff having already guaranteed top spot in Group C3.

Ange Postecoglou will be keeping a close eye on the situation with Scottish Premiership action resuming on Saturday for the Scottish champions. Celtic will face Motherwell before their crucial Champions League clash with RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

Giakoumakis has 11 caps for his country and scored during his last appearance against Kosovo. He has netted three goals for the Hoops this term.
