Giorgio Chiellini vs Bukayo Saka: Italian laughs when reliving infamous foul at Euro 2020

Giorgio Chiellini was absolutely brilliant as Italy were crowned Euro 2020 winners last summer.

The Italian was a rock at the back for his side throughout the tournament.

He put in another dominant display in the final as Italy beat England on penalties.

Many thought that he should have been sent off in the final, though.

In the final minute of normal time, with the scores locked at 1-1, Chiellini made a rare mistake.

The veteran defender misjudged the bounce of the ball and allowed England youngster, Bukayo Saka, to get away from him.

Chiellini wasn’t going to let his opponent drive at goal, though. The Juventus legend produced a truly cynical challenge as he hauled Saka to the ground. Watch the moment below…

He was booked for his troubles.

Chiellini has now relived the moment. But is he remorseful? Not one bit. He couldn’t help laughing when watching it back.

Chiellini about fouling Bukayo Saka in the Euro's final: “He wriggled around me from behind and had space to run to, my reaction was to grab him, and I grabbed him good!” pic.twitter.com/6679ky2WDZ

He said: “This became the symbol of Euro 2020 as a whole. The most heavily used meme of summer 2021.

“It was probably one of the only mistakes I made during the Euros. It was in the 90th minute and I’d read the flight of the ball, thinking I could shepherd it out of play when really I could have controlled it.

“But I was convinced I could put my body between Saka and the ball and let it go out of play, but he wriggled round me.

“When he wriggled round from behind and had that space to run into, my reaction was to grab him. And I grabbed him good!”
