Gillingham will play Championship side Millwall at Priestfield on Saturday, July 15

Gillingham have added a second home pre-season friendly to their summer schedule.

Championship side Millwall will face the Gills on Saturday, July 15 with a 1pm kick off.

Gillingham’s manager Neil Harris is a Millwall legend and will put his side up against the second-tier side just 48 hours after his team return from their trip to Italy.

The Gills are up against Como on Wednesday, July 12 in the Italian resort and are expected back the following day.

Summer visitors Millwall, managed by Gary Rowett, narrowly missed out on a play-off spot in the Championship last season and will be Harris’ side’s toughest test of pre-season.

In what’s a busy month, the Gills will send a team to Chatham Town on the Friday night (July 14), before taking on Millwall the following day.

Gillingham’s other home pre-season friendly follows shortly after when Charlton Athletic make the visit to ME7 (Tuesday, July 18) for a warm-up game.

The Gills will be hoping to have their new LED advertising boards in place next month while work on the new club shop, ticket office and reception are expected to continue until the eve of the new 2023/24 season.

Fixtures for the League 2 season come on Thursday, along with draws for the EFL Trophy and Carabao Cup. Gillingham’s players report back for training the following week on June 28.

Pre-season matches kick off with a trip to Dover on Saturday, July 8, while they also face Dartford on Saturday, July 22 and Dagenham a week before the season kicks off.

Fans will also get to see the Gills in action at some Kent non-league grounds, with mixed teams being sent to Deal Town (July 11), Tonbridge Angels (July 18), Sheppey United (July 21), Herne Bay (July 22), Lordswood (July 25) and Sittingbourne (August 1).
