Gillingham’s League 2 game against Fleetwood Town at Priestfield Stadium has been postponed

John Coleman will have to wait another week to take charge of his first Gillingham game after Saturday’s match was postponed.

An early morning pitch inspection on Saturday deemed the pitch frozen.

Coleman was looking to start his spell as boss of the Gills at home against Fleetwood Town in League 2.

A message from the Gills on Friday, after a midday inspection, said the pitch was “perfectly playable as it stands”.

But freezing temperatures overnight have left the surface unplayable despite the pitch being covered for much of the week.

Gillingham had been looking forward to a first game under Coleman – who replaced sacked manager Mark Bonner – and a possible debut for new Crystal Palace loan forward Asher Agbinone.

It’s the second successive week the Gills have been without a game.

Last Sunday’s match at Chesterfield was called off due to the wintry conditions.

The Gills are next in action - weather permitting - at home to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, January 18.
