Gillingham pack out Priestfield Stadium for big League 1 match against Fleetwood Town

A bumper crowd is expected at Priestfield for their crunch relegation battle later today.

Gillingham and visitors Fleetwood Town are separated by just a point in the table and with discounted tickets on offer, fans have been snapping them up.

The Gills have just three games left of their League 1 season to play and sit one place outside the relegation zone. Fleetwood are the team directly below them.

Adult tickets have been slashed from the standard £24 cost to £15 and they’ve already sold out many areas of the ground, including the popular Rainham End, where only a few individual seats remain.

Remaining tickets will be on sale ahead of the game from 9am today (Monday). Seniors pay £10 for the match and it's free for under-18s who are accompanied by a paying adult.

Gillingham manager Neil Harris has turned things around at Priestfield, having taken over in the hotseat at the end of January. The Gills were 10 points adrift of safety when he took charge but they are now just outside the drop zone.

Commenting on the match ahead, Harris said: “Pack Priestfield is a great initiative and it is down to the players to put that performance in. I put myself under that pressure that we have to deliver now on Monday and what a great opportunity.

“People are coming because they are seeing belief and hope again. They are seeing a Gillingham club that believes again in each other and they are seeing a connection in each other that has not been there.”

There were more than 700 fans at Cheltenham on Good Friday as the Gills drew the match 2-2. It was enough to see them climb out of the relegation zone. They now need to stay out of it.
