Gillingham manager Neil Harris chasing more additions ahead of League 2 season

Gillingham added a couple of forwards to their squad last week but more are needed.

Manager Neil Harris added Jordan Green and Mikael Mandron last week but wants additional options before the season gets under way.

Mandron was a key summer signing for Harris, who was always keen to add a big man up top, but he confirmed he’s not content with just one.

He said: “We need someone else to come into that forward line, we have got Mika, we have got Scott Kashket and we have Ben Reeves.

“Obviously Olly Lee can play advanced as well. We have seen a couple of lovely touches from him, he is a goal threat but we do need a couple more players in that forward line, one certainly a centre-forward and probably a wide player as well.”

Gillingham have 15 senior outfield players contracted so far after a busy summer rebuild for manager Harris. It’s likely that four or five more faces will join before the transfer window closes at the end of August.

“We still lack a few more and probably lack a couple who will come straight into the starting eleven and it is my job to go and get those over the line,” added the Gills boss.

Gillingham have been linked with numerous forwards in recent weeks, including Millwall youngster Isaac Olaofe, free agent Tom Elliott and Peterborough's Spanish-born prospect Kai Corbett.

Talks are ongoing, meanwhile, over the state of play with loan goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

The Charlton loanee has been ruled out with a shoulder injury until Christmas just weeks after the Gills signed him for the season, a deal which included a break clause for the League 1 side.
