Gillingham Football Club respond after shareholders are asked to vote on whether to remove Paul Scally as club director with immediate effect

Gillingham Football Club have released a brief statement regarding the potential removal of Paul Scally as company director.

Owner Brad Galinson - whose family purchased a majority share of the Gills in December 2022 - has contacted the club’s shareholders with a view to ending Mr Scally’s role at Priestfield.

Shareholders began receiving letters on Saturday and the club released a short statement on Monday afternoon.

It said: “The Board of Gillingham Football Club have called a shareholders’ meeting to consider removing Mr Scally as a director of the club.

“Our investigations are ongoing and so we are unable to comment further at this stage.”

Mr Scally hasn’t been seen at games this season but was initially heavily involved in things at Priestfield when the Galinsons first took charge.

He remained on the club’s board after the takeover along with the new majority owners, husband and wife Brad and Shannon Galinson.

In the summer, however, things changed as his involvement was downgraded to that of a non-executive director.

Towards the end of last season, the Gills promoted Joe Comper to the position of managing director, taking on a role that oversees matters on and off the pitch.

At the time, Mr Galinson said: “We needed to evolve. I feel more comfortable going back to the States with this change - it is in good hands, good communication and good transparency for me and Shannon. I think that is the most important thing.”

Mr Galinson has written to shareholders with a ‘notice of general meeting’ which will take place on Thursday, October 10 at Priestfield Stadium.
