Gillingham co-chairman takes to Twitter to engage with supporters as team beat AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup

Gillingham’s newly-appointed co-chairman Paul Fisher has already shown his willingness to engage with supporters.

While the players were doing their stuff on the pitch at Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup, Mr Fisher was using social media to interact with supporters and give them a taste of what’s to come. He was there at Plough Lane to watch the Gills win the midweek match 2-0.

Mr Fisher has previously helped the club enjoy success during his role as finance director between 1997-2001 before an influential 20 years with The Jockey Club.

He tweeted: “Hopefully everyone realises I am a lifelong fan and, given a bit of time, will try my best to get the club back to where it should be. (It) won’t be easy but I’ll give it a good go along with a top team on and off the pitch.

“I’m looking forward to working with Neil (Harris, the manager). Him and his team are top professionals and it’s great to see their hard work being rewarded with some good performances and good results. [There's a] long way to go but nice to get a positive start.”

Lifelong Gills fan James Tingley said: “A new CEO, a Gillingham team that has won two in a row, no goals conceded, potential Premier League team in Round 2, a strange feeling of positivity, it has been a very long time since we had this feel-good factor. Early days but long may it continue.”
