Gillingham captain Stuart O'Keefe injured at Hartlepool and joins fellow midfielders Olly Lee and Dom Jefferies in the treatment room

Gillingham could be without another of their midfielders this weekend when they host Sutton United.

Olly Lee and Dom Jefferies have been missing recently and now captain Stuart O’Keefe faces a battle to be fit after going off injured at Hartlepool on Saturday.

The Gills started the season with plenty of midfield options but are now looking thin on the ground. O’Keefe went off with a tight calf and manager Neil Harris is hoping the decision to take him off early has prevented any major issues.

“We are hoping that game management has prevailed there,” said the Gills boss.

Lee, meanwhile, has been struggling with tendinitis and has missed the last four league games.

Jefferies started the first league game of the season and came off the bench in the EFL Trophy match at Charlton but those are his only two competitive appearances he’s made since joining in the summer.

A free midweek will at least give those three players extra time to prove their fitness ahead of a return to Priestfield this Saturday. It could mean talks to sign former youth player Josh Chambers reach a conclusion, one way or another. The teenager has been back training at Gillingham following his summer exit.

The Gills will welcome defender Elkan Baggott back in the latter part of the week. He played the whole game for Indonesia on Saturday in a 3-2 win over Curacao. The two nations are to meet again tonight (Tuesday) for a second friendly encounter.

Let's go again tonight
