Gilles Stafler appointed EWC Sporting and Technical Co-ordinator

The FIM Endurance World Championship has received another boost ahead of the 2023 season getting underway at the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans next month. On the back of confirming 38 permanent teams for the upcoming title chase – a 22 per cent increase compared to last season – EWC promoter Discovery Sports Events is delighted to welcome Gilles Stafler to its expert organising team as Sporting and Technical Co-ordinator.

Ad Stafler, 61, brings a wealth of experience to the newly-created position having guided Team SRC Kawasaki France to top honours in the 2018-19 FIM Endurance World Championship for Teams. FIM EWCWinning weekend for EWC aces15 HOURS AGO A former rider, Stafler called time on his long-standing team management role with the recent sale of his outfit to Ryuji Tsuruta through a partnership with the Japanese River Crane (Webike) and Motohouse Co organisations.

Stafler will be assisted in his new position by his wife Isabelle, a key component in the success of SRC, which completed the 2022 EWC season with a third-place finish in the 100th-anniversary Bol d’Or last September. Welcoming Gilles Stafler to the role of EWC Sporting and Technical Co-ordinator, Jean-Baptiste Ley, the EWC Series Director for Discovery Sports Events, said: “This is a very significant step for the EWC to be able to confirm the recruitment of someone with the experience and knowledge that Gilles has.

His understanding of endurance racing and the regulations are second to none and he can only further improve the sporting and organisational level of the championship. Gilles will be onsite at all EWC events and will work closely with our colleagues at FIM as well as with Renaud Jeanfils, the EWC Event Manager and Teams’ Co-ordinator.
