Gianluigi Donnarumma: PSG goalkeeper receives bizarre yellow card vs Marseille
Gianluigi Donnarumma received one of the strangest yellow cards of the 2021-22 season during Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-1 win over Marseille on Sunday evening.
The Italian goalkeeper was booked for time-wasting in the second minute of stoppage time by referee Francois Letexier following a moment of bizarre decision making.
Donnarumma came out of his penalty area, Manuel Neuer style, to prevent a Marseille attack. He considered his options and proceeded to kick the ball out of play rather than down the pitch.
Instead of booting the ball into the stands, however, Donnarumma inexplicably kicked the ball into the advertising hoardings.
The ball rebounded back to the Italy international, who panicked.
The 23-year-old ended up dribbling the ball back down the touchline to prevent PSG taking a quick throw-in.
Letexier blew his whistle and showed Donnarumma a yellow card for wasting time.
