Getafe boss shares Mason Greenwood verdict after Manchester United loanee's wonder goal

Getafe manager Jose Bordalas admits Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood is not yet at his best level despite scoring a wonder goal as his team beat Almeria 2-1 in La Liga this weekend.

Greenwood made his 11th appearance for Getafe after joining the Spanish outfit on loan from the Reds in the summer transfer window. He completed his move after United decided it would be best for him to continue his career elsewhere. The 22-year-old had faced allegations of attempted rape, assault and coercive control, for which the club suspended him in January 2022.

In February this year, The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that all charges against the footballer had been dropped, while Greenwood has always denied the allegations. United conducted an internal investigation and it was decided that it would be better for the forward to leave.

Since arriving in Spain, Greenwood has been building his fitness and on Saturday he scored a wonder goal as Getafe recorded three points. The winger cut in well from the right-hand side before firing a fierce strike into the top corner. After the game, a beaming Bordalas thanked his club for the way they have welcomed the 22-year-old.

"We have been working with Mason since he arrived with great patience," he told the media in his press conference. "Little by little he is recovering from two years without competing.

"It is a great goal and we all know it. However, I want to congratulate all of Getafe for how they are doing with Mason and, obviously, him. He is still not at his best level."
