Gerrard could make major Aston Villa decision on £25m problem this summer - journalist
Aston Villa could look to sign a new left-back if Lucas Digne‘s injury problems persist, claims journalist Josh Holland.
The 28-year-old arrived from Everton in a £25m deal back in January and has missed a few games for his new side due to injury.
Digne made an early impact at Villa, with the Frenchman quickly coming back to haunt his former side after setting up the winner in the Villans’ 1-0 victory at Goodison Park at the start of the year.
However, since then, he has picked up a couple of injuries, including a collarbone problem which left manager Steven Gerrard fearing the worst.
“He’s in a sling. Looks like a collarbone issue,” the Villa boss told The Athletic and other outlets last month after Digne damaged his collarbone in a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham. “If it’s what we fear, it could be season over for him. The doctors are concerned.”
Fortunately for Villa, the injury was not as bad as first feared, and the France international has since been able to return to action, starting in the recent 2-0 win over Norwich City.

As well as that collarbone issue, Digne has also picked up a hamstring injury in his debut season at Villa Park. And while it did not keep him out for long, Holland reckons the Midlands club could move for a new left-back or look to retain Matt Targett if the former Everton man cannot remain fit.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: “If he carries on with these injury problems, I can see Villa thinking, ‘We’ve got an injury-prone player here. We need to go get another left-back.’ Do they give Matt Targett another go? Do they go elsewhere and bring a new left-back?”
Absolutely. The above may concern
