Georges St-Pierre offers constructive criticism to Khamzat Chimaev

UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre has offered Khamzat Chimaev some constructive criticism after his win at UFC 273.

Earlier this month, Khamzat Chimaev faced the toughest test of his career thus far as he went toe-to-toe with Gilbert Burns. While he may have been able to walk through every other opponent he’s faced up to this point, the same certainly wasn’t true against the Brazilian.

‘Durinho’ stood in the pocket and traded with Chimaev, to the point where he even came close to finishing him at the end of the second round.

The Chechen sensation was able to grind out a decision win which, while impressive, did in fact prove that he’s human after all.

The victory keeps the Chimaev train rolling at welterweight – the division that was built by the one and only Georges St-Pierre.

In a recent interview, the former two-weight UFC champion gave his thoughts on how ‘Borz’ performed and where he goes from here.

“I think it was a great fight for him,” St-Pierre said. “He needed this because he went through everybody a little bit like butter. You need some adversity sometimes and in the adversity, you get better and improve. So I think it was a good fight for him.

“It’s not good to get hit in the head. I like to watch him fight but I don’t think he fought the smartest fight.

“I think he could have made it easier for himself. He’s just used to going through everybody like this but you can’t fight like this at the elite level. 

“You need to prepare, to gameplan and to become the perfect nemesis for your opponent. You can’t always go in there and try to trade blows with someone like this.”

If he’d been able to defeat Burns with ease, there’s a good chance Khamzat Chimaev would’ve received a welterweight title shot against Kamaru
