George Russell's hopeful Mercedes prediction before F1 season ends

George Russell has said that Austin could potentially be a venue that Mercedes can challenge for victory at before the current Formula 1 season ends.

It’s been a tough year for Merc and as we head into the final six races of the campaign there is every chance we might not see one of their drivers on the top step before the season is out.

That’s quite the proposition given their years of dominance but nothing lasts forever and the Silver Arrows will be instead focusing on bouncing back in 2023.

Certainly, it’s been a frustrating year for the Brackley-based team by their high standards, though they have shown of late some better pace and appear to have closed the gap at least a bit to Red Bull and Ferrari.

Will they be able to win before the conclusion of the 2022 campaign, though? That is a difficult thing to predict and Russell is eager to say it’s hard to call, though Austin could be a place that provides victory at long last.

“Singapore could be interesting, but historically it’s a circuit where Mercedes have struggled a little bit and we know at street circuits this year we haven’t fared so well,” said Russell ahead of this weekend’s race in south-east Asia.

“I’d probably say maybe Austin. I think Austin could be a circuit that suits us better, but I truly don’t know.”

Russell has scored a number of podiums this season and he’ll be pleased with that, whilst also showing brilliant consistency to finish inside the top five at every race that has seen him cross the line.

Indeed, he’s showing all the attributes you need to be a success at Mercedes but that first F1 win is proving elusive for him thus far.
